Kogi Guber: CSO Identifies Flash Points

Ahead of the November governorship election in Kogi state, the Executive Director, Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution (CHRCR), Comrade Idris Miliki has identified nine flash points in the state.

He called on security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to beam their search lights on those areas.

Miliki made this known on Friday during a one-day review meeting for media and civil society organizations in Lokoja.

He listed Dekina, Ajaokuta, Ofu, Bassa, Adavi, Okehi, Kabba/Bunu, Ijumu and Lokoja local government areas as most vulnerable to violence.

He said Ofu, Ajaokuta, Lokoja, Kogi, Ibaji and Idah local government areas are prone to flood which may hinder smooth conduct of the November election and counseled INEC to be proactive.

Miliki charged security agents to listen to the early warning signals so as to make adequate arrangements that will enable it contain possible breakdown of violence before, during and after the November election.

He equally charged INEC to engage critical stakeholders in discussion and and to carry out more sensitization campaign in electronic, print and the social media.

Similarly, he called on political parties to be more transparent in the handling and conduct of their primaries so as to be able to track corruption in the electoral process.

He noted that the major function of his organization is to identify and track corruption in the electoral process.
