The APC governorship campaign rally at Idah, Kogi State last weekend may have been tagged as successful by the organisers, but a closer look at the event shows that it was an empty fury. There was no message at all. It was nothing but a sham; an inglorious, distasteful, and deceitful outing.
What message did the unenthusiastic, unimpressed rented crowd take way from the jamboree? Nothing. All the highlights of the events were mere window-dressing.
The so-called commissioning at the School of Health Technology, Idah, was really distasteful. It is unimaginable that a Governor will be commissioning existing buildings just because he repainted them and put new furniture inside. Even Old Students Associations of schools do better than that without making a noise about it.
Our Governor laid the foundation stone of a building in that same school on which the construction had not even commenced, but already named the building after his black market Deputy Governor. This means he had already commissioned the building before its construction. As if to say, come and see o, all those who say I have no project to commission. What a display of childishness.
The Governor went ahead to name a structure he did not build after his own wife. One wonders if there are no elders around him to counsel him back to his senses from these indecencies.
There was the flag-off of Idah – Agenebode Bridge by the clowning Governor. I am sure all those who gathered to watch the event knew that a Governor who cannot maintain township roads even in the State capital, cannot build a bridge across River Niger. He did not think of building a bridge in Lokoja to provide the shortest link between the State capital and the eastern flank and open up the abundant agriculturally rich land just across the river for both housing and agricultural purposes. Rather, it is idah town he wants to link with Edo State.
The water scheme in Idah, the historical headquarters of the Igalas, is not functioning. Our Governor did not care to resuscitate it, but wants to build another Niger bridge.
I will not want to comment about the limousine presented to His Majesty, the Ata Igala. But, since the original users of the vehicle have been brought into public domain, I hope the Governor will go and refund the excess money above the value of the second-hand car which they have taken from government coffers.
I sympathise with the Special Guest of Honour, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, for not finding any credible thing to say about his party’s governorship candidate. He could only urge the people to vote APC so they can key into the Next Level agenda of President Buhari. That amounts to a vote of no confidence in the sitting Governor who has spent nearly four years in the office without anything to show for it, except debts and salary arrears. It was apparent that the Vice President, who is known as a man of good conscience, was directed against his pleasure, to be at the rally.
APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomole, could only offer apologies for what he described as Bello’s mistakes in his first tenure. So, Governor Bello’s achievements for four years are his mistakes. He has stubbornly refused to correct those mistakes acknowledged by his own party men, by using the money meant for workers’ salaries and development of the State to fill the whole State with thousands of campaign vehicles for his wailers and attack dogs. But Oshiomole did not notice all these. All he wants is that we should vote for the unrepentant Yahaya Bello so that he can continue to may more mistakes.
Oshiomole said further that Yahaya Bello “is digitally sound”, without telling us what he has done with his digital soundness beyond his mistakes, which have impoverished the people of the State and sent many to untimely death.
In reality, Governor Yahaya Bello, by his wicked actions against the people, is challenging the God of the innocent people of Kogi State. He is carrying on as if the people have no God who can avenge them. But let the governor be assured that the God the people of Kogi State are serving will defend them against his oppression.
Our own duty is to vote out Governor Yahaya Bello on 16th November, and watch the judgement of God descend on him and his co-travellers. By God’s grace, when PDP takes over, the era of this monumental waste of public fund and deceit will become things of the past.
