In fulfilment of its promise to make available conducive and affordable transportation system for the citizens of the state, the Kogi State Government is set to commence water transportation across the state.

To this end, the state government has engaged the services of consultants who have commenced inspection of the waterways to ensure the successful take-off of the project.

This was disclosed by the state Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Abdulrahman Wuya, in a chat with The Graphic in Lokoja.

Hon. Wuya revealed that the government had put necessary machinery in motion to purchase passengers’ boats for marine services, adding that the services would cover nine riverine local government areas of the state.

He said that when in operation, they would reduce the burden on the road and boost socio-economic activities in the state.

He further stated that the government would soon procure more intra-city buses for Lokoja to cover Zango-Daji and Jimgbe satellite towns to enable people living in the areas to enjoy the services of government’s transformation agenda.

According to him, government decided to subsidize the transport fare of the state intra-service buses because of its determination to make life easy for the citizens of the state, adding that it was one of the cheapest in the country.

Hon. Wuya expressed his satisfaction with the management of Lokoja City bus, pointing out that government would soon commence its inter-state transport services.

Fielding question on the fate of the disengaged workers of the defunct Kogi State Transport Corporation, he said the government was working out the modalities of re-absorbing them pointing out however that it would be subject to available resourses and the report of the administrative panel that was set up to look into the matter.

Hon. Wuya called on Kogians to continue to support the present administration of Capt. Idris Wada, adding that the governor is a man of good conscience and so needed the full backing of all and sundry to succeed.
