The Kogi Government on Saturday promised to construct more public toilets across the state through Public Private Partnerships (PPP).

The state Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mrs Rosemary Osikoya, disclosed this to newmen in Lokoja on the sideline of “2016 World Toilet Day” event.

Osikoya said the state already had designed public toilets that would be developed through PPP, which would make toilet facilities available in markets, parks, schools, hospitals, recreational centres and other public places.

“We are reviewing the data we have on how many markets, schools, and parks are having toilets in the state.

“We take note that today is the World Toilet Day, we recognise our problems and we are using this year to do our home work being a new government,” she said.

The commissioner said that the Federal Ministry of Environment had also encouraged Kogi to list all the forest reserves in the state.

“We are creating awareness about the preservation of our parks and developing our forest reserves.

“These are some of the discussions we are having with the Federal Government to have some of our state forests reserves upgraded to national parks due to proximity to FCT.

“The state has 36 forest reserves gazetted, which have not been developed since they were established during the colonial era.

NAN reports that the World Toilet Day, marked every Nov. 19, is about taking action to reach the 2.4 billion people living without a toilet according to United Nations.
