Kogi State government, through the office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the United Nations Development Programmes (UNDP) in the area of rural infrastructure development.
The MoU which was signed by both parties at the just concluded UNGA 72 was witnessed by the Nigerian minister of foreign affairs, Hon Geoffrey Onyema, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Mrs Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Head of CGS SDGs Mr Saloko, the Nigerian Ambassador to USA Amb. Hassan Mohammed, Dr. Ojijo Odhiambo UNDP Economic Advisor and hosts of other important dignitaries.
Speaking at the occasion, the representatives of Kogi State government said Kogi state was opened for business and partnerships and the State is known as the Confluence of Opportunities because it is the crossroads where the 6 geopolitical zones of Nigeria converge.
The Special Adviser to the governor of Kogi state on SDGs, Arc Abdulmumeen Okara, noted that the State is not only interested in aid, but also trade.
“Indeed, the later in preferred. Kogi is richly endowed with cross-cutting and practically limitless potentials for profitable investment in Agriculture, Tourism, Solid Minerals and Healthcare. Interested donor agencies or development partners are invited to invest in any sector of our economy, including the five immediate developmental project areas in SDGs,” he said.
The State assures interested donors and partners of an absolutely empowering environment for their investments, as well as the certainty of good returns.
Kogi was among the four states that were selected and invited to be at UNGA72 based on the performance of the SDGs in the respective states.
According to Dr Ojijo, UNDP team are expected to be in the state second week of October to identify areas of interest.
