The Kogi State Government has assured that it will leverage on the expertise and personnel available at the College of Agriculture Kabba, towards achieving its Agricultural Transformation Agenda.
Kogi State Governor, Capt. Idris Wada, made the disclosure at the signing of Memorandum of Understanding between the Kogi State Government and the College of Agriculture Kabba, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
The agreement which is a management services agreement on Agriculture Transformation for young farmers and in building of their entrepreneurial skills covers the areas of production, training and other related matters.
Capt. Idris Wada, who was represented at the agreement signing by His Deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, described Agriculture as the flagship of his administration’s programme.
Wada said his administration is resolute in ensuring that the state is made the food basket of the nation and that employment are created.
The State Governor commended the college of Agriculture Kabba for availing the State of its expertise and competence.
The Governor lamented the dearth of capable hands and competent professionals in the field of Agriculture; a feat he disclosed is affecting the agricultural vision of his administration. The Governor described agriculture as having the capacity to create jobs for teaming youths of the State, said as a value chain driven mechanism, his administration will remain focus on it as a flagship programme for the State.
In his address, Dr. Oloniruha Akin, Provost College of Agriculture Kabba, said the management service agreement will cover the areas of seedling production, training the youths for self-reliance in areas like poultry, piggery, and catfish production.
The youths he added will under the entrepreneurial agreement learn skills in Carpentry, Hair dressing, Yoghurt production and Fruit juice making amongst others, assured the State government of its desire to make the partnership work.
Earlier in his introductory remarks, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Femi Abolarin, said the agreement when operational, will improve the knowledge of youths in the state towards growing improved seedlings and to be self-reliant. The Commissioner said the collaborative efforts between the government and the College of Agriculture will go a long way in helping to achieve the transformation agenda.
