Kogi State Government on Saturday reaffirmed her commitment to job creation and youth engagement for citizens as part of the five thematic areas of the state’s New Direction Blueprint.
The Chief of Staff (COS), to the State Governor, Mr Edward Onoja, gave the assurance in Lokoja, at the 2017 Annual Conference of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Kogi State Chapter.
He said the State’s Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has promised massive job creation and youth engagement through agriculture, empowerment programmes and social intervention scheme for various categories of youths in the state.
He noted that over N2 billion has been made available for farmers including youth in agriculture, women in agriculture and other farmers associations in the state, saying “no political or portfolio farmers would benefit from the fund”.
He urged the youths to unite and support the present administration led by Alhaji Yahaya Bello, for effective implementation of his new direction blueprint across the 21 local government areas of the state.
“If we are not united, there is no way we can experience reasonable developmental projects, any man who brings development to my people is my brother irrespective his tribe or religion.
“We must understand the difference between the real truth and political falsehood, this government will never shortchanged the people; all funds are being spent judiciously.
“We will weather the storm of the staff verification exercise, and ensure that in the next three years, Kogi is ranked among the best three states in Nigeria.
“A time will come under this administration when no case of kidnappers will be recorded in Kogi State again,” Onoja said.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Arome Adoji, said Kogi Youths had embarked on another historical landmark achievement in line with government’s new direction policy.
“It is not just a cliche or a slogan but a well thought out ambitious masterpiece, articulated to reposition Kogi in the path of greatness among other states of the federation.
“I am much more delighted that it is the youths that are in the forefront of propagating and implementating these policies.
“In the past, we the youth complain of marginalization and exclusion in the activities of governance, but the story has changed because we now have a government of the youths and for the people.
“We must come together and ensure that Kogi works. We must rally round our digital youth governor to ensure we deliver even beyond our mandate,” Adoji said.
In his address, the Chairman of NYCN, Mr Suleiman Farouq, said the youth conference was seeking how to collate ideas in repositioning and chatting a way forward for the NYCN Kogi State Chapter.
He added that it would also enable them to interact among themselves and arrive at a working communique which would be presented to the Governor to further guide the government on youth developmental plans.
He, however, urged the youths to be patient and support the governor and his team, assuring them that the government would give the youths at all levels the desired attention.
“The new direction policy of the government is working and Kogi is moving forward; the youthful governor has achieved in 15 months what others before him could not achieve for many years,” Farouq said.
The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN ) reports that theme for 2017 NYCN Conference is: “Understanding Government NEW DIRECTION POLICY, of Governor Yahaya Bello’s One Year Examples in Kogi State”, delivered by Edward Onoja, the Chief of Staff to the Governor.
