Kogi Govt. Directs Flood Victims to Register at IDP Camps

Kogi State Government on Wednesday directed victims of flood to register at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camps at the affected Local Government Areas.

Commissioner of Environment, Chief Victor Adewale Omofaiye gave the directive while speaking with newsmen in Lokoja shortly after an assessment of flood that ravaged some houses at the Assembly Quarters.

According to Chief Omofaiye, the registration will help government for effective and efficient planning ahead of the distribution of relief materials to the affected persons.

The Commissioner urged those whose houses have been submerged and seeking refuge with families and friends to visit any IDP Camps close to them for registration.

He said this years flood is more than that of 2012 as farmlands and thousands of Houses have been submerged by water.

Chief Omofaiye said the damages done by the disaster is enormous and beyond what the State can handle, and called for support of the Federal Government, International donor agencies, corporate bodies and individuals.
