Kogi Govt Declares Three-Day Mourning for Attah of Igala

Kogi State Government yesterday declared a three- day mourning for the late Attah of Igala, Alhaji Aliyu Ocheja Obaje, CFR.

According to a statement by Deputy Governor Yomi Awoniyi, the mourning would begin from July 18 to July 20.

The statement said during the period, flags in government establishments would fly at half mast and programmes would be conducted without fanfare.

It added that at government functions, prayers will be offered for the family of the late monarch and for peace in the state.

Governor Idris Wada described the Attah of Igala, who was the pioneer chairman of the Kogi Traditional Council, as a humble monarch and a man of integrity. He added that he was known for discipline and forthrightness and was devoted to the cause of his people.

Wada noted the unblemished leadership qualities of the late monarch. He prayed that God should grant his family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
