Governorship candidate of Action Alliance, Olayinka Braimoh, has promised to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals 4 (SDG) by ensuring free, qualitative and inclusive education within four years if elected.

Speaking with Kogi Reports in Abuja, Braimoh said he will treat education as an investment and not a mere expenditure.

The Action Alliance Governorship candidate noted that when viewed and treated as expenditure, managers of resources usually find it difficult to put in needed funds to grow the education sector.

He stated that with adequate investment, education development can help grow the economy and sustain the environment.

“We will ensure adequate investment in education, treating education as an investment and not expenditure. That is our goal. Because when you treat education as an expenditure, it becomes difficult to put in money because you are looking for immediate returns.

“We are talking about investment in human capital. We can trade with human capital, we can develop our economy with human capital, we can sustain our environment with adequate investment in human capital,” he said.

Braimoh bemoaned the sorry state of primary education in Kogi state and promised to revive the ailing sector.

“With about 2,052 public primary schools and about 865 public secondary schools in Kogi state, where we are today is a sorry state. Our primary education has completely collapsed. We intend to develop this sector and bring it back to life.

“We are grossly behind in terms of teacher-students ratio and the quality of teachers we have offering these services. We intend to revamp the whole of our educational sector.

“That is the reason we have to drive cash flow into the state. The state must make money because when we have wealth creation and distribution as our goal, it means the government will be able to make adequate investment in the educational sector.

“The Sustainable Development Goal 4 targets inclusive, qualitative and free education, for the first twelve years of education. This we intend to achieve within four years,” he pledged.
