In view of the recent insecurity experienced in some parts of Kogi State due to skirmishes between the Farmers and Fulani Herdsmen where lives and property including cattle were lost, the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello convened a high powered security meeting of key stakeholders to address the issues and find an amicable solutions to the problems.
In attendance were high ranking traditional rulers in the State led by HRM Attah of Igala, Dr. Idakwo Ameh Oboni, House of Assembly Members, State Appointees, Local Government Administrators, representatives of Miyeti Allah, Farmers Associations, Heads of security agencies and other critical stakeholders.
In his opening remark, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security matters, Comdr. Jerry Omodara explained in details the security situation on the ground in the last week.
He stated specifically, some of the incidences and counter-reactions that were experienced in the West and Eastern part of the State that led to mayhem and killing of not less than ten farmers and Fulani herdsmen. Thereafter, the Fulani Leaders laid bare their complaints, the Farmers had theirs and the Traditional Rulers capped it with their Royal contributions.
The Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alh. Yahaya Bello in his remarks appreciated the Stakeholders for their responses. He reiterated his unceasing commitments towards the security of lives and property without prejudice to being a host or settler. He stated that his administration would continue to take the bull by the horns in order to ensure that the people live in peace and harmony at all times.
Gov. Yahaya Bello condoled with the families of those that lost their loved ones and assured both the farmers and Fulani herdsmen that justice will be done and all those directly or indirectly involved will be exposed.
The governor charged the Local Government Administrators, traditional rulers of the affected areas to up their games, work closely with the security agencies and ensure the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice within seven days.
On the issue of Imamship in Kogi Central, the governor maintained that, the situation is so tense and advice all parties to sheath their sword while the Deputy Imam, Sheikh Salihu Abere continue as Acting Imam for now pending when a substantive Imam will be appointed in the nearest future.
