Kogi Governor Signs Bill Granting Autonomy of The State House of Assembly Into Law

Following the lead of President Muhammadu Buhari, who few months ago assented to the bill for an autonomy for the judiciary and state legislature,  Governor Bello signs the Bill granting autonomy of the State House of Assembly into Law making him one of the Governors to take early action on this.
While assenting to the Bill, Governor Bello said the law would enhance the effective operations of the legislature.
In a press statement signed by Petra Akinti Onyegbule, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the bills on contributory pension scheme for civil servants, road traffic administration and water supply were also signed into law on Tuesday.
On the Bill on contributory pension scheme for employees in the public service in Kogi State and other matters connected therewith 2018, Governor Bello remarked that his administration inherited a backlog of pensioners claims dating back as far as 15 years. A situation he described as “appalling”.
According to Bello, a well administered contributory pension scheme will make retirement easier for civil servants so that they can serve their state assured of not having to suffer during retirement.
Speaking further, Gov. Bello noted that the bill to provide for road traffic administration will make traffic orderly in the state, improve safety and security of lives of road users and penalties for offenders will increase revenue for the state.
The fourth bill signed by Governor Bello into law is to ensure efficiency of water supply in Kogi State.
Governor Bello stated after signing the bill into Law that it was a bill that was generated from public feedback on the improved service in water supply residents had experienced and suggestions that payment be made by users to ensure sustainability of the supply and service as well as improvement.
He thanked the legislature for an expeditious passage of the bills and announced that he looks forward to receiving more bills which are awaiting passage.
He remarked that a harmonious relationship between arms of government is expedient for structures, policies and legislations to enable government work better for the people of the State.
