Kogi Governor Approves N18m Transport Support for NYSC Members

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has announced the release of eighteen million Naira cash support for National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) members in the state.

The sum of 10,000 naira each was released for the 1,807 NYSC corps as transportation support.

He made this known during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II Orientation Course held at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Asaya Kogi State, on Tuesday.

Represented by his Deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu, the Governor expressed appreciation to the management of the NYSC for their commitment to nation-building through youth development.

The Governor, who praised the corps members for their exemplary conduct throughout the three-week orientation exercise, expressed satisfaction with the high level of teamwork, discipline and patriotism displayed during their stay at the camp.

According to him, the virtues exhibited by the corps members during the orientation course are strong indicators of a successful and impactful service year.

Governor Ododo noted that the orientation programme, which featured activities such as Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED), sports, drama, drills and talent exhibitions, was designed to prepare corps members for productive and self-reliant living after service.

He urged the corps members to remain law-abiding and integrate peacefully with their host communities, stressing that such conduct would earn them the love, acceptance and support of the people throughout their service year.

The Governor assured the corps members of the commitment of the Kogi State Government to the protection of lives and property across the state, reiterating that the safety and welfare of corps members remain a top priority of his administration.

He also encouraged the corps members to take advantage of the SAED programme by participating in post-camp entrepreneurship trainings to equip themselves with practical skills capable of reducing unemployment and contributing to national development.

He charged the NYSC members to uphold the values of discipline, unity, loyalty and peaceful coexistence as they proceed to their various places of primary assignment across the state.

Accompanying the Deputy Governor were, the Deputy Chief of Staff, Hon. Hilary Ojoma Egwudah, the DG Kogi State Community Watch and Ancillary Matters, Hon Muhammed Nasiru Alfa, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, and Civil Service Matters, Hon. Aboh Ibrahim and Hon. Alilu Yakubu (Erosion), among others.

Ealier in her remarks, the state NYSC Coordinator, Chris-Moneke Chika Tochi, congratulated the corps members on the successful completion of the orientation course and advised them to accept their postings peacefully, remain security conscious and make good use of the SAED programme to learn skills that will help them become self-reliant after service.

She also appreciated the support of the Kogi State Government for ensuring the success of the camp, especially through the repair of damaged camp facilities and welfare support provided for the 1,807 corps members.
