The immediate past Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Yomi Awoniyi, has said the People Democratic Party (PDP) would appeal the judgment of the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal.

The state election petition tribunal had on Tuesday dismissed a petition filed by the former governor, Idris Wada, for lack of merit and legal incompetence.

Mr. Awoniyi was deputy to Mr. Wada, both of who contested the governorship election on the platform of the PDP.

The former deputy governor told journalists shortly after the judgment of the tribunal that consultations were already going on within the partyโ€™s team of lawyers on how to appeal the judgment.

โ€œOur lawyers are already reviewing the judgment with a sound mind to appeal. We absolutely believe in the efficacy of our justice system,โ€ he said.

โ€œI appeal to our supporters to remain calm and not to aggravate their grievances. We have absolute confidence that justice will be done at the end of the day.โ€

Mr. Awoniyi explained that the desire to appeal the judgment was to deepen the countryโ€™s electoral laws.

The former governor, Mr.Wada, was said to have gone for Umrah (Lesser Hajj).
