Kogi Gov Race: Who Is Yaqub Obadofin?

Prince Rotimi Yaqub Obadofin is a native of Aiyegunle Gbede Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

He graduated from kwara state polytechnic in 1985. He studied Agric Engineering. He did his NYSC in Benue state in 1986.

He was the SUG president of Kwara-Poly in 1984/85 session. He came across socialism in 1972 and immediately fell in love with the idea of a system that preached free education, free health care and other social welfare.

He is a labour person, and we’ll known for his selfless service in the Nigerian labour Congress. He was active in the fight to  liberation of the black in south Africa.

He lead several protest against the military and was a Member of NADECO the group that fought for the actualization of June 12. 1993.

He was a Member of the lagos arm of Alliance for Democracy an ally of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and a strong figure that worked for the success of the party in 1999 and 2003.

He came into Kogi politics in 2005 when he was called by a group of Kogi Youths Group lead by Comrade Alex Babalola Omojarabi.

He accepted to start consultations and he met with all political leaders in the state and he got words of encouragement from this leaders particularly from the late Senator (Alhaji) Ahmed Tijani Ahmed
who called him the Hope of the future Kogi, General Jonathan Tunde Ogbeha then a senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District and many other leaders numerous to mention.

He contested the governorship election of 2007 under the platform of DPA an arm of the AD. He also participated in the re run of 2008.

He became the rally point of Action Congress ( AC ) when the likes of Senator Muhammed Salami Ohiare, Prince Olushola Akanmode and others left the party in 2009.

He with others nurtured the party to a vibrant opposition in the state. Remember, the party name was later changed to ACD, and later ACN.

He contested the primary of the party in 2011 and won. The tenure Elongation killed his dream to govern the state then.

When Prince Abubakar Audu left his almost dead All Nigeria Peoples Party ( ANPP ) to join Action Congress of Nigeria ( ACN ), the leadership of the party prevailed on him to step down for Audu with a promise to support him to clinch the ticket of the party when next the opportunity comes.

He is today a chieftain of All Progressives Congress ( APC ) and he is presenting himself again to serve the people of the state. He said a new kogi is possible where freedom will be for all and life will be more abundant.

To him, ideas rule the world, and that he has the ability and knowledge to turn around the state for the betterment of all Kogites and non Kogites alike.

He believe he has what it takes to win the incumbent as he was one of the main Strategist in the last governorship Election in Osun State.

He has been around governance in Lagos and Osun since 1999. He is an activist per excellence and a welfearist.
