Former chairman of Dekina local government area and Pioneer National Chairman, Northern Local Government Chairmen’s Forum (NLGCF), Hon. Mohammed Ali, has indicated interest to contest for the office of governor under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming Kogi State gubernatorial elections.
Ali, in a statement, said after extensive consultations with his family, political associates, many stakeholders within his party and a broad spectrum of indigenes of Kogi State, he has arrived at the decision of offering himself for the service of the state.
He said, “It is also informed by the urgent need for passionate and committed party members to salvage PDP from the brink of precipice where it currently stands, owing generally to the sour outcome of the recently held elections in Nigeria and particularly, the negative perception of our people towards the party and the current government of Kogi State.”
Ali said it is no longer a secret that there is widespread resentment for the government by the people based on the belief that in the last four years, the gap between promise and performance in the governance of Kogi State has retrogressively widened to a near irredeemable distance, thus eliciting deafening outcry and palpable disenchantment from the electorates.
Ali said as a loyal party man and an ardent believer in the sterling principles upon which PDP was founded, he would rather remain and join hands with other patriots and fix Kogi State within PDP instead of racing out of the party to join the fair weather bandwagon that is already over loaded with certain politicians of shallow character.
