Kogi Flood Was a Wake Up Call – Yomi Awoniyi

Arc. Yomi Awoniyi, the Kogi State Deputy Governor and Chairman Post Flood Management Committee in the State, has described the flood that ravaged the State recently as a wake up call.

The Deputy Governor, stated this when he received a cash donation of  N500,000:00 from Kogi State Savings and Loans Limited in Lokoja, today.

Awoniyi said the flood is a call for all stake holders in the State to follow building regulation and to always clear their water channels.

The Deputy Governor, described the donation as timely coming as a time when the State is getting set to properly resettle those affected.

Kogi State Government, Awoniyi explained is moving into another stage of relocating displaced persons to camps secured from the Federal Government.

He noted that the flood claimed 72,200 hectares of crop loss and 670 hectares of cultivated farmland, in the State commended the support received from well sprinted organizations and individuals, assuring that the donations made will be used in a manner that will alleviate the sufferings of those affected and those it is meant for.

Earlier in his speech, Ahmed Usman, Managing Director, Kogi State Savings and Loans Limited, said the support is in sympathy with those who were affected by the flood, commended the proactive measures taken by Capt. Idris Wada and the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, in reducing the plight of those affected said the government’s action has helped in re kindling the hope of the common man.
