The Kogi State Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Asiwaju Idris Asiru and the Director General on Media and Publicity to the Governor of Kogi State, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo have helped defray the NECO registration fees of selected students in Yagba East and Mopamuro Local Government Areas respectively.

Asiru said his decision to pay the registration fees for students in Yagba East was aimed at empowering indigent students in the Local Government Area. He said the gesture will be expanded next year as 16 students benefited from the program this year.

In a related development, the Director General on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Kingsley Fanwo also extended the gesture to 11 indigent students across Mopamuro Local Government Area. The scholarship was awarded through the Titilayo Empowerment Foundation, a foundation founded by the Director General to help empower the grassroots people.

The duo assured beneficiaries of further support if they are able to perform well in the examinations, saying their support was informed by the New Direction Agenda of Governor Yahaya Bello administration which places education on the front burners.

He said the 11 successful students were selected fairly after a keenly contested test involving the best students across all the secondary schools in Mopamuro Local Government Area.

“We have to help our best students and build them to be responsible members of the society. We didn’t do anything extraordinary, but only replicated the position of our principal, Governor Yahaya Bello on education. Education is the best gift we can give to our youth”, he said.
