In a bid to tackle the current security challenges facing the country, Kogi state Government has embarked on vigorous public awareness campaign aimed at sensitizing the general public and various stakeholders to be security conscious and to take adequate measures to address issues of security in the state.
Towards this end, the State Government has inaugurated Security and Peace Awareness Committee which has swung into action by organizing workshops in the three Senatorial Districts of the State.
While declaring one of the workshops open, the State Governor, Captain Idris Ichalla Wada, directed all the Local Governments in the State to replicate same in their respective areas to nip possible threat to lives and properties, terrorism, armed robberies and other vices in the bud.
During the occasion which attracted traditional rulers, religious leaders, political leaders and other stakeholders, Governor Wada said that the campaign was part of government’s proactive measures to ensure peace and security in the State.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on security, Captain Mathias Abdullahi who represented the Governor at the occasion assured the people of the State of government’s readiness to provide adequate support for the campaign.
He blamed insecurity in the country on inequality and ostentatious display of wealth by leaders, unemployment, weak and failing infrastructure.
He advised Federal Government to provide adequate funding for the Police and ensure infrastructural development in the rural areas to reduce the problem.
It will be recalled that the State was recently thrown into panic following the discovery by security agencies of bomb manufacturing factories in Kabba and Okene towns in the west and central senatorial districts of the State.
