Having observed the various memo and articles from various parties I am satisfied to see the lingering strike issue in Kogi State University as a result of politics and selfish interest. KSU will not stop exercising strike if we fail to see education as separate body that requires special treatment. The future of any state or country lies within the knowledge of their youths. Any state who invest in knowledge will be exalted and always stay ahead of other. If we continue in this act we shall lost our pride as a state.
According to Francis Bacon he said “education is power” because education remains the only medicine that can cure the disease of fear, poverty, ignorance and superstitious belief, one with knowledge is a dominant of the environment.
Time management: stop wasting our time we need to graduate and face our future pursuit. Education institutions are established to guide development of human intellect within a time frame. 6-3-3-4 system is being implemented in Nigeria educational system but not duly honoured. The estimated time in the university is 4 years but in kogi state university today we end up spending 6 years for a four years programme or more for 5yrs programme. The truth is that, our government and the academic union has failed to realise the implication of time management. The time wasted can not be regain.
The strike action has numerous effect on the student, looking at it from the intellectual aspect. The science of psychology explains the the law of “use and disuse”. The law implies that if you put the brain to use it will be fully activated and alive. If you don’t put it to use it will become dormant and atrophied. We are becoming dull intellectually I believed some students must have forgotten most of the things they had learnt previously.
Considering the above stated rationale the government and the Academic staff union should bring an early resolution to the strike issue. We can no long spend 6yrs for 4yrs programme. We are leaders of tomorrow and we must not remain in school forever. Do the needful in time of the need and realised that we are on the citadel of learning to acquire knowledge and skills to become full-fledged persons in the society. Stop wasting our time, don’t make us nuisance we are learned people, do not deprive us our right. Treat education as a special and separate body.
We must not experience strike in KSU again. A word is enough for the wise. Safe our future!
