Events trooping our political history within the last few days had left me wondering where Kogi state perhaps, Nigeria is heading to. From the continuous postponing of PDP primaries to some shenanigans that kept everybody mute from the supposed senatorial primary’s venue earlier this week.
The incumbent senator Aidoko trying to hide under an umbrella of a memorandum of understanding between political parties he is not part of to solicit for automatic, the dying minute intervention of senate president and a dashed hope of PDP faithful at Idah over primaries which desperation marred from taking place.
In a truly democratic setting, peoples’ welfare is the principal objective. It must emerge top agenda of both political and economic outputs. That is to say, a genuinely elected democratic leader must emerge through public ideology been the dictator of such leader’s activities of governance.
In this scenario, the best way to test-run popularity is by field contest where fate of political mantra and aspiration will be clearly decided by the people for whom such is made or through whom such aspiration emerged. So, if an aspirant feels he is popular among his people or his aspiration is a welcomed idea perhaps, he feels he has done so much that deserve continuity, why not simply play along with open contest which is an ideal democratic prospect?
Few days to the initial scheduled date of the primaries, we heard a screening that had only the three incumbent senators in attendance was held in Lokoja. Premeditatedly, the kangaroo screening was for paving way for the three senator and their masterminded automatic return ticket. But I guessed those wailing from the side of justice actually truncated the whole saga.
Like a desperate king whose reign was an absolute misery, plan B emerged with the president of the senate, Dr Bukola Saraki in Lokoja to sell Aidoko to the people. Now, many would want to contradict by saying that Saraki was in Lokoja for his presidential campaign but only time shall prove the authenticity of this story.
During Aidoko’s declaration grand finale, he made a state worth noting; “I AM THE LAST MAN STANDING IN PDP”. Could this be attributed to self deceit or this is simply money bag in action? Again, only time shall tell.
The PDP primaries slated for 2nd of October was another thrilling episode. In spite of the presence of the state party’s bigwigs, the primaries did not hold. My source reliably confirmed a declaration from Aidoko’s camp that they have concluded the primaries and have given mandate to him (Aidoko) while other aspirants like a baby awaiting its mother’s return from the market had their eyes fixed on the road for the arrival of INEC officials who never came.
Thank God, I was told it almost rained in Idah that day. Otherwise, the scotching heat from the sun would have been felt by those standing outside. Again, wailers from the side of Justice took their grievances to Abuja and like the strength of a light which always prevail over darkness’ PDP seems to have bowed to pressure this time. Hence, the rumored primaries rescheduled for Friday 5th of October.
My take,
If Aidoko and those behind the automatic ticket gibberish failed to understand that similar but lax attitude actually killed PDP in 2015. How fast are we to have forgotten that the current rejuvenation of the party was as a result of slight margin created by grievances. Hence, the need for drastic abhorrence of the so called automatic tickets. For heaven’s sake, this is too infant for PDP at this time.
Moreover, I heard the national chairman of the party, Uche Secondus boasted that PDP does not need Kogi state to win elections. Well, I am not too sure if the Chairman is actually speaking from the inevitable crisis the prevailing activities would land the party into subsequently.
Let me believe that Aidoko and co cannot execute this alone. Party officials, delegates and even the electorates all played some crucial roles in the ongoing syndrome. Therefore, the apposite question berating my breath space is, if these gamblers’ interest exhibits democratic principle that gives absolute right to the masses to choose who should lead them. To give the people such freedom is the required justice that must be seen as priorities and denying them is unsought, abysmal and democratically unwise. Therefore the currently unfolding sinister plan by some party greedy elements would tempt every clear headed thinker to ask; Has Justice Been Slaughtered?
However, answer to this sacred question will be released in tranche. The first tranche would emerge few hours from now. That is if the rumored PDP primaries rescheduled for 5th of October comes successfully while the second tranche would be released immediately after NASS election.
God Bless Kogi East in anticipation.
