A former aspirant in the just concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election in Kogi East, Dr. Mahmoud Bala Alfa, has called for calm, unity, and internal dialogue following growing reactions trailing the outcome of the exercise.

In a statement issued on Monday, Dr. Alfa acknowledged the widespread emotions and political tensions generated by the primary election across Kogi East, noting that such reactions were natural in any democratic process where people invested hope, energy, and expectations.

While refraining from directly attacking or defending the conduct of the primary, the APC chieftain urged party members and supporters to approach the aftermath of the election with maturity and a commitment to peace.

“The APC is one family, and everything surrounding this primary election should also be treated as a family matter that must be handled with maturity, dialogue, and understanding,” he stated.

Dr. Alfa said the concerns and frustrations emerging from the process should become an opportunity for reflection within the district, adding that many of the recurring political grievances in Kogi East were symptoms of longstanding structural and leadership issues in the region.

According to him, anger and emotional reactions alone would not resolve the situation, stressing that wisdom, discussion, and unity remained the most responsible path forward for stakeholders in the district.

He also referenced President Bola Tinubu’s earlier position encouraging states to adopt consensus arrangements where possible and direct primaries where consensus failed, saying the policy was designed to preserve party unity and stability.

The APC aspirant further urged aggrieved members to channel their concerns through engagement with party leadership rather than public confrontations capable of deepening internal divisions within the party and the region.

Addressing his supporters directly, Dr. Alfa assured them that his political journey remained active despite the outcome of the primary.

“Dr. Mahmoud Bala Alfa is here to stay and is not going anywhere. The conversations we have started must continue, and together, we will rewrite our collective destiny as a people,” he said.

He also commended the leadership of and for their roles in the growth and stability of the APC in Kogi State.

The Kogi East APC primary has continued to generate mixed reactions across the district, with political observers describing the contest as one of the most closely watched internal party battles ahead of the 2027 political cycle in the state.
