In order to develop the agricultural potential of Kogi State, the state government has earmarked three Local Government Areas for the immediate take-off of its agricultural transformation agenda of the state in partnership with some foreign investors from the United State of America (USA).

This is as the state government has also perfected arrangement to develop the tourism sector of the state in order to boost the financial status of the state.

Special Adviser to the governor on media and strategy, Mr. Jacob Edi, disclosed this in a chat with THISDAY in Lokoja on the benefit of the five day working visit of Governor Wada to the US, adding that the governor is committed to the agricultural transformation of the state by making the state the food basket of the country within the shortest possible period.

According to him, the selected councils are Ibaji, Idah and Bassa, adding that the areas were chosen because of the feasibility study conducted by the experts which clearly shows that those local government areas have the needed fertile soil that can yield more crops that will be planted there.

He added that crops to be planted include rice, soya beans, corn and wheat, stressing that within a couple of months the state would be regarded as the food basket of the nation as those crops would be processed and package for both domestic and international markets.
