Kogi Disability Law: Group Lauds Hon. Ahmed Mohammed’s Efforts

People living with disabilities (PLWD) in Kogi state have commended member representing Ankpa I constituency in the state assembly, Hon. Ahmed Mohammed for his efforts towards passage of disability law.

The group made this known when they paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Ahmed in Lokoja on Thursday.

The Senior Special Assistant to Kogi state governor on disability matters, Hon. Hassan Ahmodu led the group on the courtesy visit.

He commended Hon. Ahmed Mohammed, who is also the Deputy Majority Leader in the House, his efforts, being the first and major sponsor of the bill for the right of people with disabilities in Kogi State, a Bill which was passed by the State Assembly recently

Ahmodu described Hon. Ahmed Mohammed as a man who is for all, noting that he has given the deaf community a sense of belonging in the society by starting this campaign on the floor of the house.

“The disability community is a vulnerable group, but Hon. Ahmed Ahmed loves and cares for the members. He is the first person to show us love anywhere he sees us. We are here today to simply thank you for your effort and to pray with you and your family,” he said

Hon. Ahmed Mohammed in his remark, appreciated the co-sponsors, partners and frontiers to the success of the bill, her Excellency, the wife of the governor of Kogi State. and the Majority Leader of the house. He described the law as “Law for special people” in the society

“The bill when assented to by the state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, will protect the rights of disabled persons in the state. The establishment of the commission would enhance the rights of physically challenged persons and give them a sense of belonging to contribute their quota to the development of the state.

“The bill was subjected to all the legislative process before it was passed, and various stakeholders overwhelmingly supported the establishment of the commission during public hearing on the bill.”

He also appreciate the governor for recognizing and continues to empower disable people who are involved in private economic ventures. He assured them of the Governors readiness to assent to the bill as it concerns special people in the state.
