Kogi Deputy Gov Charges Stakeholders on Quality Education

Stakeholders in the education sector have been told to redouble their efforts to enable the institutions of learning regain their pride of place as worthy breeding grounds for tomorrow’s leaders.

Kogi State Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi, stated this at the reunion dinner of the University of Ilorin Alumni Association, Abuja branch.

The Deputy Governor who was represented by Elder Adavi Abraham, Permanent Secretary, Administration and Parastatal in the office of the Kogi State Deputy Governor, said it has become obvious that Government at all levels do not have the resources needed to turn around the educational system following competing needs and dwindling resources, called on stakeholders to develop creative means to supplement the efforts of Government.

The Deputy Governor, described Unilorin as a university that has earned a place of eminence among the leading universities in Africa, urged the Alumni to be in the forefront of mobilising support for the infrastructure and other long term needs of the University, in order to sustain its reputation of high quality and excellence.

In his opening address, Prof. A. Ambali, Chairman of the occasion and Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin, commended the synergy existing between the institution and its Alumni in the Abuja chapter urged other branches to emulate their good works in building the infrastructures of the University.

In a lecture by Dr. Ado J.G. Mohammed on Primary Healthcare delivery to Nigerians a concern for all, called on government at all levels to pay emphasis to the Primary Health needs of people living in rural areas. He called for greater funding of the health sector, adding that the number of deaths resulting from poor infrastructures is becoming worrisome.

Highlights of the occasion was recitation of the University’s Anthem by Elder Adavi Abraham, which was composed by him in 1986 as a student of institution and the presentation of a meritorious award of excellence on the Kogi State Deputy Governor for his contribution to learning in the University.
