Kogi: David Zacharias Condemns Post Election Violence in Ochadamu

A member representing Idah Federal constituency at the National Assembly, Hon David Idris Zacharias, has condemned in its entirety, a post election violence that led to the death of Mrs. Acheju Abuh, who was a women leader of Ochadamu ward in Ofu local government area of Kogi state.

Zacharias, who gave the condemnation when he led some of his supporters on a visit to the House of the deceased on Tuesday in Ochadamu, expressed disappointment and regretted the incident, noting that the act was a total disrespect for the sanctity of human life.

According to the lawmaker who called for calm in the community and beyond, the incident was not a direct political crisis as it is being speculated in some sections of the media, however assured that he will get to the root of the matter regardless of the reason behind the ungodly and inhuman behaviour.

He condoled with the PDP and the immediate family of the late Achaju Abuh, and appealed to youths of the community to restrain from any further reprisals attracts, and allow enforcement agents to do their work effectively.

In his words he said: “I feel very pained and disappointed that after a peaceful electoral process where we did not record a single death until this ugly incident happened.

“I can assure you that this will not be swept under the carpet. We will allow security agents do their job by fishing out those behind this dastardly act and they will face the consequences of their actions”.

He added: “we must first understand that we are brother and sisters and nothing whatsoever should allow us think wickedly towards our fellow human beings.”

In an emotion-laden voice, eyes filed with tears and with very sober mood, Zacharias prayed that the family bear the fortitude to bear the loss, which he emphasized, was untimely.

He called on residents who have fled the community as a result of fear of attacked to return to their homes, with assurance that adequate security will be put in place to guarantee their safety.

He encouraged them to go about their normal daily economic activities, with a charge on them not to take laws into their hands but allow government use the instrument of justice to fish and punish the perpetrators. 

Some legislators accompanied the Zacharias from the Kogi State House of Assembly, party stalwarts and some friends in the entourage, took turns to condemn the act.
