The fear of scarcity of rice during this year’s Christmas celebration has been allayed as the rice from dry season farming floods markets in Kogi State.

Governor Idris Wada who paid an unscheduled visit to the warehouse at ADP, mini-rice mill at Felele yesterday expressed delight at what he saw saying it is a welcome development.

He said, “You were all here when we started all these last year, it was as if we were playing. Today, our little effort has paid off and we now have Kogi rice. Our agricultural transformation is real, its on course”.

The governor, who also took time to inspect the warehouse project and progress of work on the site said the idea behind accelerated rice programme was to drive it in such a way as to encourage private sector involvement.

He assured private organisations and individuals that government would accord them all the necessary support they would need, pointing out that Nigeria cannot afford to continue to spend N1billion daily on rice importation when it has all it takes to massively produce the crop.
