Senior Special Adviser to Kogi Governor on Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Barr Yusuf Abdul on Tuesday said the State Government is collating names of registered NGOs and Civil Society Organisations (CSO) working in the state.
The data capturing of the organisations, according to him, is with a view to identifying genuine ones and to increase their level of collaboration with government in the delivery of Good Governance to the people.
Abdul in Lokoja, the Kogi state capital said identification and collation of organisations were conducted by his office in collaboration with the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
The SSA said the exercise became necessary in view of the great roles Non-Governmental and Civil Society Organisations play in driving the economy to exploit the resources maximally for the benefit of the people.
“Those outside government who are not feeling the impact of government immediately should feel the impact through the civil society organisations that are also in partnership with government.
“The government is interested in making sure that the CSO groups in the state are galvanized together to form a partnership where we can have a synergy to drive the economy of the state”, he said.
He however hinted that government would soon establish an agency for Civil Society and Community Development to coordinate the activities of the organizations with a view to supporting and enhancing their community development programmes.
The agency, according to him, will be such that would provide guidance to organizations and individuals on collaboration for attainment of goals and possible ways to access government partnership.
Abdul said it would be unfair for CSOs to be unnecessarily antagonistic of government rather than seeing themselves as partners in the development and assured that government would not exploit the agency to meddle in their affairs.
