Kogi State Governor, Idris Wada, has reiterated the commitment of his administration to the welfare of workers in the state.

Wada, who disclosed this while speaking at this year’s May Day celebration at the Lokoja Township Stadium yesterday, said the role of labour could not be over-emphasised.

He said the role of leaders could not be undermined in the society, stressing that the intention of government is to alleviate poverty among the workers.

The governor, however, assured labour leaders in the state that his administration will look in to the litany of demands by labour, commending them for the cordial relationship between the government and labour in the state.

Earlier in his address, Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade James Odaudu, called on the state government to pay the arrears of workers that had been promoted since 2011 till date. He also urged the government to pay the allowances of primary school teachers in the state.

The labour leader also urged the government to implement the national minimum wage for teachers and local government workers.

Odaudu called on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency complete the Ajaokuta Steel Company and the Iron Ore factory at Itakpe, stressing that no nation can be industrialised without developing its steel. He said the completion of the factory will certainly reduce unemployment in the country and Kogi state.
