The suit filed by Dalhatu Sheriff against Kogi Central Senator, Dr Yakubu Oseni challenging his victory as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Senatorial primaries has been struck out by the Supreme Court.

Mr Sheriff was one of the APC aspirants in the primary election held in Okene on 3rd October, 2018 where the delegates in an overwhelming majority chose Dr Yakubu Oseni.

However, while other contestants congratulated winner and accepted the results, Sheriff sought legal remedy against what he regarded as irregularities in the process of the election.

While reacting to the final judgement by the Supreme Court today, Senator Yakubu Oseni recalled that the aggrieved Sheriff first challenged his victory at the High Court and the verdict which was subsequently pronounced by the judge was faulted by Sheriff. He (Sheriff) therefore sought more judicial remedy and proceeded to Appeal Court where the judgement of the High Court was affirmed.

Having utilised the windows of litigation by the claimant and judgement served, Dr Oseni said the decision of his constituents to chose him has once again been confirmed.

“I want to use this medium to appreciate you all for your prayers and steadfastness in your choice and equally assure you that I will never be distracted by the remaining legal hurdles before me.

“Your decision to elect me to represent you at the Red Chamber will never be toyed with as mechanism to implement my promises to you have been perfected. In no distant time, the real dividends of democracy which is the yearning of all will be at your doorsteps”, the lawmaker reiterated.

With this case concluded, Senator Yakubu Oseni has two more to go. The immediate past Senator of Kogi Central, Senator Ahmed Ogembe (PDP) and the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Natasha Akpoti are in the Election Petition Tribunal to challenge his victory. All cases are speculated to be concluded in August, 2019.
