The Kogi State Golf Association has proposed a 9-hole golf course to be sited at the Kogi State University (KSU) campus, Anyigba, as part of measures to curb students’ unrest.
Chairman of the Association, Emmanuel Bako, told newsmen that the public-private project will cost between N50-60 million.
Bako explained that engaging students in golf will give them less time to engage in antisocial activities.
“The association deemed it necessary to have the first golf course in the state at the state’s university campus in Anyigba, because we want the students to get involved in the game,” Bako said.
“Another reason is to curb the nefarious activities of students on campus.
“The students most times think of vices and become restive when they have nothing to do.
“But when they are engaged with sports as golf where you have to play for hours you don’t think evil, you think positively and develop a much disciplined mind.”
He revealed that golfing would be “introduced into the school’s curriculum as it is done in the United States.”
The course, expected completed by September 2015, will be Kogi State would be first-ever golf course.
