Kogi Assembly Passes 5 Bills

Kogi State House of Assembly has passed five bills including a Bill for a law to establish the Kogi State Meat Hygiene and Inspection, 2024 and other matters connected therewith.

The Bills where passed at Thursday plenary sitting following their third and final reading after clause-by-clause consideration at a Committee of the Whole chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon. Comfort Ojoma Nwuchiola (APC-Ibaji).

The passed Meat Hygiene and Inspection Bill, when assented to and passed into Law, will provide for among others, a standard abattoir with strict adherence to standard operating procedures (SOP).

It will as well provide for compliance with Good Hygiene Practices (GHP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to guarantee food safety.

It will also provide for implementation of the Federal Government gazette on Animal Handling and Meat Processing and Distribution in Abattoir Regulation 2022.

Other bills passed by the House on Thursday in Lokoja include; a Bill For A Law To Provide For Retirement Of Judiciary Staff In Kogi State, 2024; A Bill For A Law To Repeal And Re-enact The Customary Court Of Appeal, (Establishment) law, 2008, and A Bill For A Law To Establish The Kogi State Meat Hygiene And Inspection, 2024.

Also, a Bill For A Law For The Establishment of the Kogi State Social Investment Programme, Agency as well as A Bill For A Law For The Establishment of Kogi State Secondary School Board were passed by the Kogi State 8th Assembly.
