Kogi State House of Assembly, on Wednesday, passed the 2015 appropriation bill, totalling N111.172 billion.

The State governor, Captain Idris Wada, on December 2014, presented N110.212 billion 2015 appropriation bill to the House of Assembly.

The figure was, however, increased by N10 billion, which was in line with the recommendations of the committee on Finance, Appropriation and Budget Monitoring.

Before the passage, there was submission and adoption of harmonised reports of various sub-committees of the house on the Appropriation Bill.

The chairman, committee on Finance, Appropriation and Budget monitoring, Honourable Haruna Musa, who presented the report, stated that the 2015 budget complied with international Public Sector Accounting Standards and was in line with global best practices.

He explained that the accounting system gave room for transparency and accountability in public finance management, adding that the 2015 budgetary provisions was about N19 million lower than the 2014 budget.

Musa stated that, in the course of collating the 2015 reports of the sub-committees, the house made 13 observations, which necessitated the suggested increase in the bill.

Majority Leader of the house, Alhaji Yakubu Yunusa, however, moved for the adoption of the report and clause-by-clause consideration.

The Speaker, Alhaji Momoh-Jimoh Lawal, called for the third and final reading of the bill saying that the present budget was the last to be passed in the life of the present legislature in the state.

He noted the speedy passage of the bill by the house believing that the house had kept its promise of accelerated passage, in spite of the on-going political campaigns.
