Opinion leaders under the auspices of Ikah Community Development Association have called on Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State to come to the rescue of the community by completing the Ofugo-Ika-Icheke road project.

In a statement signed by Acting Onu Aloga of Ikah and District Head, Shaibu Ekele, Hon. Barry Idakwo, Area Manager North, Fidelity Bank Plc, Alhaji Idris Yakubu, Special Assistant on Security to the Governor and leader of Enjema Ward IV, Hon. Alhaji Yakubu Okolo, former General Manager of NNDC, Alhaji Haruna Ahmodu and PDP Chairman Ikah Ward IV, the community leaders said the contract for the road was awarded on 1st November 2011 to Alley Vises Global Resources Ltd but it had been abandoned.

The work, according to them, commenced and continued until June 2014 when the contractor abandoned the site, saying that the work had only attained 35 per cent completion.

In view of the Governor’s penchant for project completion and consequent commissioning, the community leaders “appealed to him to prevail on the contractor to return to site especially now that the dry season has set in fully.”

The community leaders stated in their submission that Ikah is completely a PDP-controlled Ward, stressing that “PDP leaders from the affected communities will make greater impact in wooing support for the party if the road is completed.”

The stakeholders therefore appealed to the Governor to promptly intervene and ensure that the contractor gets back to site to complete the road project.
