Kogi Assembly Considers Bill for Extension of Legislative Staff Retirement Age to 65

A bill which seeks to extend the retirement age of legislative staff of Kogi State House of Assembly from 60 to 65 years old or from 35 to 40 years in service has passed through its first reading.

If the bill is passed into law, it will enable the Chairman of Kogi State Assembly Service Commission, the Members and the Secretary of the Commission to go for second term in office.

The bill also seeks to create room for enhancement of performance in service as it will give room for younger staff members to be trained by the experienced and older staff.

The Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf had read a letter from Gov Yahaya Bello which intimated lawmakers of a draft bill which is to amend the Assembly Service Commission Law and other matters connected therewith, Law 2023.

According to the letter, the Governor requested that the lawmakers consider the bill and approve it.

Subsequently, the Speaker called on the Clerk of the House, Chogudo Ahmed Sule, to give the bill its first reading
