A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in Kogi State, Prof. Seidu Onailo Mohammed, has alleged a plot by to disqualify frontline aspirants.
In an open letter to the APC National Working Committee, by the director of communication of his campaign organisation, Moses Abdullahi, Mohammed said he had particularly received reports of plans by the APC to disqualify him, Vice Admiral Jibrin Usman and Mohammed Abubakar Audu.
He alleged that this was to pave the way for Governor Yahaya Bello’s emergence.
“Let’s put on record that we, and indeed all lovers of democracy were shocked at the announcement of the party’s indirect mode of primary election billed for August 29 even when the composition of the State Executive of the APC is still a subject of litigation in suit number FHC/ABJ1CS158112018 and a majority of members of the party are favorably disposed to the direct form of primary election.
“We therefore implore the Adams Oshiomhole-led NWC to learn from the avoidable losses we recorded in Rivers and Zamfara States so as to avoid the repeat of those ugly scenarios and eventually build a durable democracy in Nigeria for posterity and future politicians”, the letter read in part.
Reacting through his Chief Press Secretary, Mohammed Onogwu, Governor Bello said it was laughable that Mohammed was seeking “to conjure political relevance among his kith and kin. Nigerians and Kogites in particular are aware that it is not in the character of the administration to persecute perceived opponents.
“So, the imputation that we’re angling for the disqualification of any aspirant is nothing but a figment of their imagination as Governor Bello has remained a model for peaceful engagement and political dialogue. Any inclination at portraying him otherwise will not be acceptable.”
