The Kogi State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized the retrenchment of workers by the state government under the watch of Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
The party in a statement signed by the state Chairman, Alhaji Haddy Ametuo, stressed that the screening exercise that led to the sack of large numbers of Local Government workers was a total departure from principle of the APC.
The statement reads in part: “Founders of APC in Nigeria and by extension, Kogi State, conceived a party, out of divine inspiration that will be able to alleviate poverty, create employment, provide social security, industrialisation and reduce corruption to its barest minimum.
“When we were campaigning for the November 21, 20016 governorship election, our governorship candidate – Late Prince Abubakar Audu (of blessed memory) promised to give Kogites employment and not retrenchment; development of social infrastructure and not its destruction; prompt payment of salaries, and not continuation of past PDP government 30 percent salary payment; positive orientation of our youth, and not encouragement of thuggery; peace and harmony, and not executive intimidation; strict adherence to the rule of law, and not lawlessness with impunity.”
Ametuo, in the statement, however, said he was not surprised by the continued exuberance and inhuman steps so far taken by the Bello’s administration, because there was no any social contract between governor Bello and the electorates.
“Late Prince Abubakar Audu was a man who never spoke from the both sides of his mouth.”
