A member of the House of Representatives, Chriscato Ameke, Thursday, said there was no cause for alarm as the map of Nigeria had demarcated the area of discord over the oil well in dispute between Anambra and Kogi states.

Ameke, who represents Anambra East-West Federal Constituency, location of the disputed oil well,  in a chat with Vanguard, said: ”We have more than enough documentary evidence to prove the ownership of  the oil well.”

According to him, a court as far back as 1973 had given a judgement in favour of his constituency in the disputed area where oil was found.

He explained further:  “As far back as 1932, this issue of ownership was resolved in our favour by the colonial administrators in the Eastern region and the court judgement is another testimony.”

”Till date, we collect royalties because the area in question is a Federal Reserve Forestry which was then managed by the colonial administrators.

”We are not contesting the oil well in Kogi State with them but this one in Anambra River is definitely ours and more so that the geographical spread as indicated in the Nigeria map has vindicated us.

”Even when President,  Goodluck Jonathan came for inspection, he needed no soothsayer to tell him that truly, there was oil in the area in question.

”Before he came, experts had carried out extensive and exhaustive investigations to verify the authentic owners of the portion before the President made his declaration.

”We are not joining issues with our Kogi brothers as all the parameters point to Anambra as the original owners of the area.”
