Kogi-Anambra Oil Dispute: Simon Achuba Appeals For Calm

Kogi state Deputy Governor, Elder Simon Achuba has appealed to the parties involved in the dispute between some villages in Ibaji local government area of kogi state and Aguleri community in Anambra state over oil well to lay down their arms to give room for dialogue and lasting solution.

Odeke, Echeno villages in Ibaji local government area of kogi state, where the oil was discovered and Aguleri community in Anambra state, have been at a longer head over who owns the portion of land where the oil was found.

But at a courtesy visit by the Igbo community, Idah branch to the deputy governor of kogi state in Lokoja the state capital today, Achuba said fighting would not resolved the dispute, calling on all parties to the matter to embrace peace for justice to take its position.

The deputy governor while stating that the benefit of the oil would never come if the worrying communities continue to fight, maintained that the two states have been living together in peace and should remain in peace.

Speaking, the leader of the delegation and president of Ibo Community, Idah branch, Dr Moses Ugwuanyi said they were in the office of the deputy governor to congratulate him on his recent position as the number two citizen of the State.

He urged the deputy governor to use his position, as the son of the soil in ensuring that the dispute is resolved amicably for the development of the area in particular and Nigeria as a whole.

The president of the group also enjoined the youth of both communities to emulate their parents who have been coexisting and shun violence of any kind.

He used the forum to congratulate the present leadership of the state over its victory at the appeal court today, stating that leadership of the state was ordained by God.

The Igbo president urged those who are opposing the government to join hands with it for the good of the state.
