Kogi: An Abnormal State Where The Machinery Of Government Is Dysfunctional

The government officials continue to bury their heads in the sand pretending that all is well. They continue to confuse their personal well being with the state of their economy. That makes eminent sense when we consider the fact that they cannot distinguish between the state’s treasury and their personal checking accounts.
And in all honesty, the Bello led administration has been an absolute disaster. It is true that Kogi state has never had the good luck to be governed by a ruler with vision, but in sheer ineptness Captain Idris Wada beats the Bello, with the possible exception of Prince Abubakar Audu, by a long stretch. It is true that PDP’s ending was very inauspicious, but it’s thirteen years in the Lugard’s house has revealed a party totally out of it’s depth.
The governor of any state is supposed to be the moral compass of that state. It is not an institution to joke about or trivialize. Yet Bello has so utterly bastardised the hallowed institution that no Kogites believes in the words of the governor. Bello has reduced the governorship to a total joke that no one takes seriously anymore. Nowadays Kogites yawn when their governor comes to address them. This is sad for any state, most especially for a state like Kogi  that calls for a firm, dedicated hand to guide it through its turbulent and very complex polity.
Amidst all the squalor all over the state, elites, totally removed from reality, continue to beat their chests and give themselves kudos for a job well done. They continue to live and behave like they are in some cuckoo land where people exist in dream lands. And the governor is the leading act in this grotesque spectacle of chest-beating and self-congratulation.
Bello continues to operate like a hopeless leader without any idea what it takes to govern a state, much less a complex one like Kogi. And he continues to talk less and less sense.
A political appointee was recently shown on various cables spraying money at a party. His state is among the most backward in the land, yet he felt no compunction whatever to be seen obscenely displaying his looted wealth. Kogites were not amused.
The generation and supply of electricity has become a major problem in Kogi state with no one clued on how to resolve it. Power supply is erratic. Many Kogites go through life without tasting pipe-borne water. And corruption is so pervasive that it has simply become a way of life in Kogi state.
