Kogi State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project, has trained School Based Management Committee (SBMC) members to build their capacity on School Improvement Plan (SIP), aimed at complementing its efforts in promoting effective school governance and project management.
The 12-day SBMC training, was conducted at seven clusters in each three local government areas, across the three senatorial districts to capture all government owned school SBMC representatives.
The training aimed to equip participants with the necessary tools for developing and implementing strategic plans to improve school environments and learning outcomes.
In his remarks, during the training in Anyigba on Tuesday, the Project Coordinator, Dr. Bello Abdulhakeem, reiterated the project’s vision of fostering accountable and inclusive education management.

He highlighted the critical role of SBMCs in identifying school needs, setting achievable goals, and creating actionable plans to enhance learning conditions for students.
Dr. Abdulhakeem also underscored the necessity of continuous training and capacity-building programs to maintain high standards of educational management and governance.
The SBMC training sessions were facilitated by Lead 123 Nigeria Limited, a consulting firm renowned for its expertise in construction, educational management and community engagement.
The firm’s representatives, led by Arc. Abdurrahman Shuaibu Lantana, delivered an overview of SIP, roles and objectives of SBMC as regards SIP, practical sessions on resource mobilization, community involvement, and the step-by-step process of crafting sustainable school improvement plans.
Arc. Abdurrahman emphasized the importance of aligning school improvement strategies with the unique needs of each schools, advocating for a data-driven approach to decision-making in schools.
He facilitated interactive sessions that focused on building strong partnerships between schools and their communities, while providing insights into leveraging community resources to support educational initiatives.
Participants left the training with newfound skills in communication, school supervision, and strategic planning. Many expressed gratitude to Kogi AGILE and the state government for organizing such a forward-thinking initiative.
They noted that the training would significantly contribute to enhancing educational standards in the state, with several SBMCs already drafted their SIPs for their schools.
The training featured breakout sessions, interactive workshops, and practical demonstrations, providing participants with hands-on experience and fostering collaborative learning.
It marked a pivotal step towards strengthening school governance structures in Kogi State.
By empowering school leaders and SBMC members with the right tools, Kogi AGILE continues to set benchmarks for excellence in education management.
