The Kogi West Movement for Justice and Progress (KWMJP) has dismissed a purported vote of no confidence passed on the Senator representing Kogi West, Sunday Steve Karimi, describing the action as politically motivated and without consequence.
In a press statement signed by Tajudeen Irelewa Samson and made available to journalists, the group said the communiqué allegedly issued by some individuals claiming to represent the structure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area was a pre-arranged political move aimed at discrediting the senator.
The group alleged that the move was orchestrated by a few political actors, including Wemi Jones, Jerry Omodara, Bode Adeyemi and Richard Otitoleke, claiming that the attempt was designed to destabilise the political atmosphere in Kogi West.

“First, it is important to state clearly that the so-called vote of no confidence was nothing more than a pre-arranged political script, orchestrated by
Hon. Wemi Jones and Hon. Bode Adeyemi and a handful of desperate politicians whose ambition to control the political direction of Kogi West has continued to blind them to reason, fairness, and democratic decorum.
“Recalled that Hon. Adeyemi served in the bursary scheme in 2025 where 1500 Kabba Bunu students benefited Sen. Karimi’s benevolence. We are aware of how monies were returned and went into personal pockets.
“Long before the ill-fated communiqué was released, credible information had already exposed the plot to stage-manage a political drama aimed at discrediting Senator Karimi. What eventually emerged was therefore not the voice of the grassroots but the echo of a predetermined agenda.
“We are happy that the motives of the planners as self serving as it is failed flat and of no consequences,” the statement read.
KWMJP reminded the public that Senator Sunday Steve Karimi remains one of the most accessible and responsive representatives the district has had in recent history.
“His engagements across communities, traditional institutions, youth groups, and development stakeholders within the senatorial district are well documented and widely acknowledged by objective observers.
“To therefore accuse him of inaccessibility is not only misleading but also a clear attempt to distort reality for political convenience.
“On the issue of a Senatorial District Office in Kabba, it is instructive to note that representation in the National Assembly is not measured by the mere physical location of an office building but by the quality of legislative contributions, constituency interventions, and advocacy for the welfare of the people.
“Senator Karimi has continued to deliver on these fronts through various initiatives, legislative engagements, and empowerment programmes that cut across the seven Local Government Areas of Kogi West Senatorial District.
“Equally misleading is the claim that Kabba/Bunu has been excluded from legislative aide appointments. Appointments in legislative offices are guided by competence, strategic needs of legislative work, and the necessity to ensure effective service delivery.
“Reducing such considerations to narrow political sentiments is both unfortunate and a disservice to the broader interests of the senatorial district.
“The Distinguished Senator has continued to work closely with reputable sons and daughters of Kabba/Bunu for the progress of the Local Government and other Local Government Areas that constitute Kogi West.
“The allegation of insubordination to party leadership is another spurious claim that exposes the political undertone behind the communiqué. Senator Karimi is a loyal and committed member of the All Progressives Congress, and his political journey within the party predates many of those now attempting to question his loyalty.
“The attempt to portray him as anti-party is therefore nothing more than a desperate narrative constructed by individuals who are uncomfortable with independent-minded leadership that refuses to submit to political manipulation.
“Furthermore, the insinuation that the Senator promotes disharmony within the party is ironic. If anything, the current attempt to manufacture a vote of no confidence through coercion and political pressure on ward leaders is the real source of disunity.
“Politics built on intimidation and orchestrated resolutions cannot produce unity; it only exposes the desperation of those behind such schemes.
“It must also be emphasized that no individual, group, or gathering has the constitutional authority to determine the political future of a Senator elected by the entire Kogi West Senatorial District.
“The mandate given to Senator Sunday Steve Karimi came from the collective votes of the people across the district, and it is the same people who will ultimately judge his performance when the time comes.
“The Kogi West Movement for Justice and Progress therefore urges the public to treat the said communiqué as a politically motivated distraction designed to create unnecessary tension within the party and the senatorial district.
“The people of Kogi West are politically sophisticated enough to distinguish between genuine concerns and orchestrated propaganda.
“Rather than dissipating energy on manufactured controversies, stakeholders in the district should focus on strengthening unity within the APC and consolidating the developmental progress already being recorded under the leadership of progressive elements across the state.
“Senator Sunday Steve Karimi remains committed to providing responsible representation, advancing the interests of Kogi West at the National Assembly, and supporting policies and programmes that will improve the welfare of the people.
“He is completely committed to the reelection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and will not be afraid to promote the ideals and development strides of Mr President.
“No amount of politically engineered distractions will derail that commitment.”
The Kogi West Movement for Justice and Progress called on party members, community leaders, and the general public to reject divisive political theatrics and remain focused on the larger goal of sustainable development, unity, and progress for the entire Kogi West Senatorial District.
“We know where the script is coming from but their machinations cannot defeat the collective will of the great people of Kogi West.”
