Jubilation As Femi Mokikan Emerges Bunu Consensus Candidate for Okun Development Association’s Presidency

A foremost industrialist and human resources expert,  Barrister Pius Femi Mokikan has emerged as the Bunu consensus candidate for the forthcoming Okun Development Association election coming up later this year.

The position of the president has been zoned to Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency and precisely Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area.

It would be recalled that Pa Otitoju of Iyamoye had occupied the office when it was zoned to Ijumu. Pa Otitoju however took over from late Mr Kayode Aka, from Kabba, who was elected President in Mopa in 1983. Late Kayode Aka was the younger brother of the late Obaro of Kabba, Oba Daniel Aka. The outgoing president, Ambassador Fadumiyo is from Yagba East.

Femi was born on October 3, 1954 in Akutupa-Kiri in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State. He is a Lagos-based human resource management expert, legal practitioner, entrepreneur and community development activist.

From the classroom, he moved to consulting.  In 1985, he joined FIM Consultants Ltd., Lagos as a Senior Consultant. He functioned here until December 1988 when he moved to Arthur Andersen & Co., the foremost consulting organization in the world then (now Accenture).

From Arthur Andersen & Co, he joined Seven-Up Bottling Company Plc (SBC). In 1992 he became Head, Human Resource Management following his outstanding contribution in a one year consulting engagement with the company. His main responsibility in SBC was to re-engineer the HR function and provide needed leadership through the HR function to the over 4,500 SBC management, senior, junior, expatriates and African employees of the company in the country.

Femi places high premium on professionalism. He is an active member of the following professional bodies: Fellow, Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPMN) Fellow, Nigerian Institute of Training and Development (NITAD), Fellow, the Academy for Entrepreneurial Studies (AES), Fellow, the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) Fellow, Institute of Public Diplomacy And Management Member, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

Femi has received over 100 awards from various interests groups, including community, student and social bodies from within and outside the country.

Femi was unanimously elected as Chairman of Committee of Human Resource Experts (CHRE) of Nigeria Employer’s Consultative Association (NECA) where he served for many years. He was at different times a member of the Education Committee, and the Ethics Committee of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPMN). He is currently a Council member, and Chairman of CIPM’s Institutional Development Committee, a position he is holding for the second time in a row. He is also the current Chairman of the Legal Committee of the Nigerian Institute of Training and Development (NITAD).

During his career he was always on the Employers Team (representing NECA) in every major national delegation comprising government, employers and labour at local or international fora. This took him to Switzerland, Norway, Italy and South Africa.

He served on the Federal Government National Minimum Wage Committee that fixed the current national minimum wage. He was also on the Board of the National Wages, Salaries and Income Commission, representing the employers’ interest, where he was at the tail end of his second of a five-year term before he retired from the services of SBC in June 2015.

Mr. Mokikan’s academic and career background is strong and rich. He is exposed to and by some of the best consulting and training organizations. He is a good listener, teacher, trainer, coach and communicator.  He is hardworking and has the capability to adapt to situations and challenges with ease. With solid hands-on experience spanning several years, Mr. Mokikan is a model in his career to many young Africans who want to become successful practitioner in Human Resource Management. He has a strong passion for building people and mentoring them for a better future. And he does not make noise about this.

Notwithstanding his numerous high profile callings, Femi still has time for community activity. He is one of the founding fathers of the Akutupa Welfare Association (AWA), an association that provides him a platform to give back to his community. He has been National Legal Adviser to the Association for five years.

He is not limited in his community activities to his Akutupa community alone. He responds to all community invitations to the best of his ability. In the same token, he has a passion for the work of God and this he demonstrates across denominations in different parts of Nigeria.

Femi retired in June 2015, but still serves as a Board Member of the company. He says he is retired but not tired. To give expression to that, he set up his own outfit, Interventions and Results Ltd where he is currently the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer. He is the Principal Partner in Femi Mokikan & Co, a Law Firm and the Chairman of Anointed Blessed Engineering Co Ltd.

He also committed to participate actively in the political agenda of his people at home  Mr. Femi Mokikan is married to Titilayo and to the glory of God, they are blessed with responsible children and grandchildren.
