All is set for the official inauguration and induction of new members of the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON), Kogi State Chapter, as the institute deepens its presence in the state.

The Kogi State Chairman of ISPON, Dr. Friday Sani Makama, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, describing the event as a milestone in the promotion of safety standards and professional practice in Kogi State.

According to him, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo will be conferred with a National Safety Award in recognition of his administration’s commitment to the protection of lives and property.

The award will be formally presented during the inauguration and induction ceremony scheduled for Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the Grand Royal Hotel, NIWA Quarters, Lokoja.

Makama said the governor was carefully selected for the honour following what he described as “deliberate and strategic policies” aimed at strengthening safety standards and improving security across the state.

“Governor Ododo has carved a niche for himself in the area of safety of lives and property across the board. His administration has demonstrated uncommon commitment to creating a secure and safety-conscious environment for citizens and investors alike,” he said.

He added that the recognition was based on measurable impact rather than political considerations.

“This award is not political; it is purely professional. It is based strictly on performance, safety compliance initiatives, and the enabling environment provided for safety institutions to thrive in Kogi State,” Makama stressed.

The chairman further described the forthcoming inauguration as historic, noting that ISPON, established in 1980 by an Act of Parliament, has continued to play a pivotal role in promoting safety professionalism nationwide.

“The establishment and strengthening of the institute’s presence in Kogi State is historic. It signals that the state is on the path of growth and institutional development. This is the first time we are witnessing this level of structured attention and institutional respect given to the safety of human lives in governance within the state,” he said.

Makama explained that the induction of new members would expand the pool of certified safety professionals in Kogi, thereby enhancing compliance with national and international safety standards in workplaces, public institutions and communities.

“With more trained and certified safety professionals in the system, we are confident that issues relating to workplace hazards, road safety, fire prevention and environmental protection will receive more coordinated attention,” he added.

Other key officials expected to receive awards at the event include the Kogi State Commissioner of Police; the Commissioner for Solid Minerals; the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC); the Director of the Federal Fire Service; the Commander, 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army; and the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Kogi State. They are being recognised for their contributions to enhancing public safety and security.

The ceremony is expected to attract safety practitioners, government officials, security agencies and stakeholders from within and outside the state, further underscoring the growing importance of safety governance in Kogi State.
