In the last quarter of 2020, a group of concerned sons and daughters of Egbe in Yagba West Local Government of Kogi State, took a detailed view of the ecological degradation in the community and consequently declared emergency on the state of drainages and roads  within the township.

In this regard, a team of engineers was sent to review and advice on what level of remediation needed to be embarked upon to arrest the situation.

Based on the findings and recommendations of the technical team the project had been scoped as earth works cum drainage reconstruction.

Mr Deinde Abolarin, leader of Together We Can (TWC), a politician and businessman in the telecommunications    sector, and initiator of ‘Egbe Ise Ilu Road Project’, told newsmen that there is no retreat, no surrender to the community’s resolve to tackle road and erosion problems ravaging the community.

He noted that as long as there is breathe in the community leaders, there is no discouragement or retirement until they have  succeeded in putting voice and resources together to rescue Egbe from erosion.

His words, “I am led to hope that we shall all stand up to this challenge and make handsome contribution towards the project. I am certain God shall bless you all for standing up and making donations towards this assignment.”

He listed Ajewo Palace, Oja Egbe road junction, Oja-Owa junction and drainages alignment as selected starting points for the initiative, assuring that all donations made will be effectively used and accounted for.

He drew attention to the very bad drainage and roads across Egbe which have led to several erosion points.

He also stressed that this initiative is one and part of the several groups attempting to do something about the various challenges “facing our place of birth”, noting that the various community based projects requiring attention are well known and will be compartmentalized.

“Our strategy here is to mobilize all of us to support by contributing in what ever way deemed necessary. A number of the projects requiring attention are well known to us and shall be attended to in packages one by one after the other”, he said, adding that “ISE ILU EGBE will commence with local citizens playing their parts. Specifically, this initiative will mobilize support from our leaders to start the old ISE ILU EGBE focusing on specific issues across Egbe. The youths will be mobilized as well to support and do their part as We Can Do volunteers. The initiative will do our part”. You can’t stay silent. Please step forward. My Egbe, Your Egbe, Our Egbe”.

He expressed gratitude to all those who have contributed to the past projects initiated by various groupsand reminded all others that Egbe needs more from all sons and daughters of the community.
