An aspirant vying to represent the people of Okene/Ogori-Magongo constituency at the green chamber in 2019, Nasiru Usman Bello on Saturday donated not less than 2000 books to youths in the central senatorial district of Kogi state.
Bello made the donation at the celebration of the 2017 International Youth Day organized in Okene by Avabe Initiative for Community Development.
In a speech at the event which also marked the flag-off of summer class for secondary school students in Okene, he stated that drug abuse is at the crest of youth challenges in Nigeria, adding unemployment and poverty as major factors.
“I used to be hopeful that this menace to growth and development cannot be found within the perimeters of Kogi central. Unfortunately, I was proved wrong because I found that many of our youths have started engaging themselves in this despicable act.
“If you do not indulge in the act of drug abuse and alcoholism, you have conquered two devils. If you are able to survive these challenges between ages 13 and 19, you have survived for life,” he said.
While urging the youths to shun social vices and be self-disciplined, he encouraged them to become critical thinkers in the technological sector.
