The controversial senatorial primary of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kogi West has taken a fresh turn with the report from Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) stating that there was no primary election in the zone.
In a 4-page report signed by INEC Electoral Officers for Kogi, Lokoja, Kabba-Bunu, Ijumu, Mopamuro, Yagba East and Yagba East, the report stated that all the electoral officers converged at INEC Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area Office from where they proceeded to the venue of the Primary (Kabba Township Stadium) at 10:00am.
The report stated that:
- No written agenda was made available to the electoral officers
- There were no party officials at the venue of the primary
- Security operatives were seen in large numbers at the venue
- No list of delegates was given to the Electoral Officers as there were no party officials or election committee at the venue
- There were no speeches or messages as none of the organizers were available at the venue
According to the report, “at about 6:00pm, it became apparent that no primary would take place at the Kabba Township Stadium as earlier expected. The Electoral Officers therefore left for the Kabba/Bunu INEC office”
“At about 6:30pm, an official from the All Progressives Change (APC) State Secretariat came into the office with a resut claiming the exercise was done in Lokoja by Consensus. The Official did not however disclose his identity and his position in the party despite all efforts by the electoral officers to find out who he was”, the report reads.
“Find attached a copy of the result submitted, certifying Mr DINO MELAYE as the winner of the All Progressives Change (APC) Primary for the Western Senatorial District”
