Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, said his commission was prepared to conduct elections in Kogi State on December 3, 2011.
Speaking in Enugu, at a consultative retreat with INEC and state Independent Electoral Commissions in the country, Jega said his commission had already ensured that the few challenges that trailed the April elections would not repeat themselves during the fresh elections that would be conducted.
“We are adequately prepared and we intend to do even much better than we have done in the previous elections. But obviously, the success of any election is a collective undertaking. The politicians also need to get their act together. They have to show seriousness that they actually want democracy in this country. They cannot be undermining democracy by their conducts,” he said.
He, therefore, asked governors and politicians to demonstrate practically through positive actions that they want democracy to thrive in the country by rectifying certain anomalies being practiced in their domain.
