Personnel of the A-Division, Kogi State Police Command, have been working under the sun and rain for more than two months after a storm blew off the rooftop of their office buildings.
The damaged structure, which houses key sections of the division, including a cell where suspects are kept, is yet to be repaired, forcing officers to conduct daily operations in exposed and unsafe conditions.
Sources at the division said official documents and office equipment were destroyed in the aftermath of the storm, while others were hurriedly moved to safer areas outside the facility to prevent further damage.
“The working condition right now is very stressful. We sit in the sun when it’s bright and scramble when it rains. Some files and equipment are already gone,” a source who asked not to be named told newsmen.
Efforts to get an official response from the division and the Kogi State Police Command were unsuccessful as no one was willing to comment on the matter at the time of filing this report.
The continued exposure of the office has raised concerns over the safety of personnel, the integrity of police records, and the ability of the division to respond effectively to cases.
Residents in the area have called on the Police authorities and relevant government agencies to intervene urgently and restore the building to make it fit for use.
