The Director General Akanle Campaign Organization, Prince Dayo Akanmode has warned the All Progressives Congress (APC) against imposition of candidates.
In a press release issued on Sunday, Akanmode appealed to the leadership of the party to desist from “forcing unpopular aspirants down the throats of our people.”
He expressed confidence in Governor Yahaya Bello’s repeated assurances that the party will ensure level playing field for all aspirants.
“The Akanle Campaign Organisation is not unaware of a purported meeting held today (Sunday) at Glass House, Government House, Lokoja, orchestrated by the Speaker Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Mathew Kolawole and Secretary to Kogi State Government, Mrs. Folashade Ayoade with the sole aim of endorsing some aspirants in Kogi West against the wish and aspirations of the people of the area.
“According to report reaching the Campaign organisation, their effortless efforts was resisted by the people. The atmosphere was charged and greeted with response of NO by the entire democrats that attended the meeting. The protest later spread outside the glass house like bush fire.
“We still believe the Governor, who repeatedly assured party members, especially our people from Yagba, of a level playing ground, will not be part of this latest heinous decision against our people led by G-2, whose stock in trade still remains self interest.
“The sponsors of today’s (Sunday) meeting and their actions is nothing but an attempt to reverse the gains made in the reconciliation programmes.
“This move by anti-democratic forces is morally wrong and their myopic thinking in supporting an Ijumu candidate for Senate against Yagba people, having gone three consecutive times, will be a suicide mission by the party that set up a committee to reconcile the warring factions ahead of 2019,” the statement said.
The group appealed to Governor Bello and the leadership of the party to insist on free, fair and credible primaries for all aspirants seeking party tickets.
